Reading Schedule
Each story we will take eight (8) days to complete. So every other Monday will start a new story. The first Monday of each story will consist of an introduction of spelling and vocabulary words (both lists will be sent home in the WL-B folder), a preview of the story and word work. The SECOND WEDNESDAY will be test day, students will be given two separate tests: a spelling test and a reading test. The reading test includes the week's vocabulary and comprehension of the story and a new story students are asked to apply weekly skills. The second Thursday we will work on writing and the second Friday we will work on our Scholastic News. The next Monday we will start over again.
Please check 219 at a glance for updated test dates. Spelling and vocabulary word are also tabs and will be updated with each new story.
Reading books will be sent home on the second Tuesday for students to read the story at home. The story will be read at school three (3) times before the test, so students will have read the story four (4) times. Research shows the more times a student re-reads a story the deeper the understanding or comprehension becomes.
